Welcome to Message Monday!
Finally, the tsunami of year-end fundraising pleas has petered out, and the New Year has begun! I wrestle with a mix of feelings: excitement about my new projects, including this blog, and learning to cook. Fear and dread of the orange one's potential re-election. Hope for progress! And of course, in the background, always some anxiety about money.
So here's a shout-out to some messages that met the moment and caught my attention.

God love Billie Joe Armstrong, still political after all these years. They kicked off their performance of American Idiot on "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve With Ryan Seacrest" on ABC with some new lyrics - "I'm not part of the MAGA agenda!" Thanks to Maxwell Frost for bringing it to my attention and TN Holler for capturing the moment.
New Year Means Insurance Deductibles Back to Zero
Our Revolution reminds us: "It's the first day of the year. For most Americans, this means their insurance deductibles have reset back to zero. Between today and December 31st, 2024, the average American will need to pay thousands of dollars before their insurance plan will actually cover their healthcare. Yes, the insurance plan they already pay an expensive monthly premium for. This is a cruel, costly, and stupid system. We need #MedicareForAll now." Grrr.
